Looking Through the Trees: Traditional Witchcraft
Living in the southern part of WV with my parents and sisters until I moved away in the 80’s, I wasn't like the rest of the kids that lived around me. Only had maybe one friend, and even she thought I was a bit odd at times. When I became a teenager. I didn't think like the rest of the girls. Their thoughts were on boys, growing up getting married having kids and that was basically it. My thoughts were of finishing school going to college and moving to New England. My thoughts were on books, sci ...
Finding Balance: Discipline Wedded to Devotion
Finding Balance: Discipline Wedded to DevotionOur culture of "not good enough" is so rampant, that it can be terribly hard to disassociate oneself from it. I was able to come to terms with the capitalist way of life here in our Western world through Eastern means, specifically through Zen Buddhism. That led to deep meditation, of simply being in the moment, of enjoying the simple things in life while maintaining a deep discipline of distancing myself from the "not good enough life" into ...
Back to Basics Witchcraft: Magical Creativity for Small Living Spaces
I remember when I first started on my path to Witchcraft and Paganism, I was enthralled by everything around me: the wind swirling through the leaves, the way rain falls off a leaf, the scent of the rain-soaked earth, or the intense heat of a campfire under the stars. In a way, this feeling of ethereal wonder still enchants my life, and I have made my room into a Pagan’s paradise. Six years later, I have a working altar on my dresser for my spell work, an altar to Cernunnos and Brigid fa ...
Cernunnos: The Darkest Wood in the Moon's Light
The funny thing about the Gods, they show themselves to you when you least expect it. It might seem cliché, but there is truth in this statement, because when you truly enjoy life to its fullest without worry, your mind opens up to new ways of thinking. That’s when the Gods and Goddesses can speak to you. Everyone has a different way of approaching the deities, whether it be with ritual, song, the visual arts, writing, and that’s just the tip of the tree branch! Often, people wonder where to sta ...
Why the Faeries?
*Faery - Old English spelling, as well as the race of Ireland’s faeries, the Tuatha De Danann.*Fairy – a literary term as in Fairy Tales and the fairies therein.*And, just a note, all faeries are NOT good or nice. All are mischievous, but some will help you if generous and kind to others. If you cross one, though, your family can be cursed for generations.“I believe in everything until it is disproved. So, I believe in fairies, myths, dragons…it all exists even if it is in yo ...
Elements of Magic
Magic is a multifaceted subject. It can take practice and time to feel confident about using it. Many books and traditions suggest lots of preparation and timing, which can be ideal for overcoming big obstacles or performing ceremonial magic. However, you can't always bring your ritual tools everywhere and casting a circle isn't always practical. I know I use magic everyday. It enhances and supplements my life and has for many years.... it doesn't have to be complicated.Tradition plays a ...
Men and the Goddess
I am currently teaching classes in recognition of The Feminine Divine, and incorporating this concept with the religion of Wicca; well, any Wiccan or Witch knows it would be impossible not to incorporate Her, as She is foundational to this path. I add this for emphasis because honoring the Goddess, a/k/a The Feminine Divine as Deity, is what our Western culture is severely missing. The topic of this essay is:“Why Would a Man Search for the Goddess?”Interview with Tim Ward in the b ...
Magic in Daily Life
One of the magical aspects in the life of a Witch is how we manage to include magic in everything we do, in our homes, in our cars, at work, on trips, in everyday life. Even the simple task of cooking breakfast can be a magical experience for a Witch! Magic, contrary to popular belief, is everywhere around us and we can use it not only to improve our lifestyle but also to connect more to our magical path and the worship and relationship with the deities or entities we work with. In this ...
Ares and Athena
Owls everywhere... I have seen them for the past couple of years, their large, bejeweled eyes staring from my computer screen from craft shops on Etsy, decorating T shirts and pillows at the local Target and Wal-Mart. I even procured a small, rose-colored, stuffed one from a card/book store in a small college town around St Valentine's Day; squeeze her, and she says "Owl you need is love!” or “I don’t give a hoot for anyone but you!” Why this overabundance of owls? I really didn't give it much t ...
Gudrun of the Victory Gods
“I remember many wrongs.” -- (The Poetic Edda, The Whetting of Guðrún) Perhaps more than any female in the Prose and Poetic Eddas, Guðrún Gjúkadóttir is both a tragic heroine and a monstrous woman whose filicides make her, to modern sensibilities, little better than Grendel’s mother. These poems, however, were not intended for modern sensibilities or even, initially, for medieval Christian sensibilities. When considering Guðrún, one must keep in mind that “vengeance is of central importa ...
A Little Magickal History
Silently across the snow steps made without a sound, Nothing but the imprints of lost footsteps might be found. For standing under a cloak of midnight blue, The stars glistened like sapphires within the winter’s hue. Whispers of secrets and magick released for what shall be, The coming told in whispers of this elemental release.A gift a of magick from a future yet designed or pasted, As the seasons shall turn into memories and moments to forever last. ...
La Santa Muerte... The Stigma and the Strength
I know, I know... La Santa Muerte?! Whaaaat? Saint DEATH?! What kind of a "Pagan" writesabout a 'hush hush' Catholic saint?!This "Pagan"... ;-) So, WHO or WHAT is La Santa Muerte? Well, I'm still learning the academia of Her, but from what I have "experienced"... She is a unique Goddess. "Oh-ho!", You say, "She is a goddess?!" Yes. And quite a powerful one at that. Now, I am not disregarding the other deities nor am I pointing a finger at the Judean God and ...
An Open Fire: Healing from Within
The air feels cool and crisp this morning as I step through the rear door of my home. From my left, the sun is beginning to crest above the horizon, offering its rays of light through the eastern tree line. I look upwards; the sky above is transitioning from a darkened blue, barely a cloud within sight. The weather forecaster tells me storms are blowing in from the western horizon, but not until the evening hours. No signs of the thunder yet, still a distance away. I walk down a few strides and ...
Autumn Meet 2017: "Dancing with our Ancestors"
The drive to get to Autumn Meet Pagan Festival wasn’t bad, about 2 1/2 hours for us coming up from the Ft Myers area. This Festival is held at the Maddox Ranch, in Lakeland Florida and is a much shorter drive than most of the festivals we have driven to throughout the years. We were warmly greeted, fou ...
The Lady on the Stairs
For as long as I can remember, I have been tied to what I call other realms. My childhood is filled with amazing yet what many would call unexplainable experiences… hearing voices of those who are not physically present, feeling a presence not physically there and even seeing someone who is but a reflection in appearance. I have even seen those who look so much like a physical person I mistook them for one.I have had numerous encounters with things beyond this plain of existence yet I st ...
